Tell us what Dedi-K-ted is all about?
Dedi-K-ted is primarily made up of aspiring hip-hop dancers and break-dancers. Currently there are 20 over members, ranging from 12 years to 25 years olf. We’re basically dancing together weekly just for passion, and to have a get-together session.
Since you dance as a group, do individual talents matter?
Individual talents make the group special, adding diversity to the group. We can learn from each other. In our performances, we have segments where, our different talents take turns to showcase their talents.
Are there any challenges you face as a dance group in Singapore?
*Bursts out into Laughter* The Art of balancing schedules. In Singapore, work and school are placed as the highest priority and on the other hand, we also need to able to put in enough time for regular practice.
Were parents against you joining a dance group?
Parents are supportive but still concerned when we perform risky-looking dance moves (such as headstands). This is especially so after some of the dancers sustained severe injuries from dance moves, such as a dislocated shoulder. For the Sistas, their mother used to be a professional ballet dancer and encourages them to dance.
So what was you most memorable performance so far?
Ignite, a Christian Youth Conference held in Jan 2008, was one of the biggest events that we performed at. And it was really memorable because the event venue had all the cool cameras, lights and stage. The hosts were professional and hospitable, to the extent of burning a nice DVD of their performance for them as memento.
