Art enthusiasts will be excited for the first Andrée Putman exhibition in Hong Kong, which will debut during Le French May.
The late interior architect is renowned for her streamlined aesthetics and eye for elegance. Putman created a work for an exhibition in 2006 that paid tribute to the iconic Louis Vuitton Steamer bag. The bag is a favorite amongst seasoned travellers, first released in 1901. The installation has been exclusively moved from France, making its way to Hong Kong along with over 275 additional pieces.
Putman encapsulates the link Louis Vuitton has had with travel with her piece, which depicts a brown leather hot air balloon (a nod to Putman’s Montgolfier family creating the hot air balloon) attached to the classic Steamer bag, reinterpreted in the designer’s iconic black and white checkerboard pattern, which earned her the name ‘The Queen of the Checkerboard’,
75 pieces will be on display at the Landmark from May 2 – 23, and from May 24 – June 8, 200 pieces will be on display at the Police Married Quarters (PMQ), a newly opened art, design and cultural hub in Hong Kong.
