COS has collaborated with New York-based studio Snarkitecture for this year’s Salone del Mobile, to create an environment that reflects the label’s core DNA. Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen of Snarkitecture have produced an installation that speaks to an appreciation of clean lines, the ambiguity of transparency and the transformation of the everyday into something extraordinary. Spazio Erbe in Brera has been transformed into an immersive translucent cave.
COS Heads of Design, Karin Gustafsson and Martin Anderson were drawn to Snarkitecture’s work when researching inspiration for the Spring Summer 2015 collection. They found many parallels between the approach to design of Arsham and Mustonen and COS – most notably the concept of reduction. Moreover, Snarkitecture and COS both believe in the importance of collaboration; each creating collections and projects through the combined effort of their close-knit design teams.
“As a brand which takes inspiration from the entire design world, to work with designers that combine art and architecture in their approach has been both exciting and refreshing. Without the use of our garments, Snarkitecture have perfectly encapsulated the COS aesthetic, creating an installation that is unique in its simplicity and unexpected in its approach.” said Martin Andersson, Head of Menswear Design at COS.
This is COS’ fourth outing in Milan during Salone del Mobile and it builds I previous art and design collaborations with the Serpentine Galleries, Frieze Art Fairs and the Barbican.
