The 21st annual Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Cannes raised US$38 million, helping amfAR in its fight against HIV/AIDS. Presented by Bulgari, Worldview Entertainment and Bold Films the star-studded black-tie event was held at the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc. The gala event featured a celebrity filled live auction, an all red fashion show that was exquisitely curated by Carine Roitfeld and performances by Robin Thicke, Lana Del Rey, Aloe Blacc and Andrea Bocelli.
The live auction was led by amfAR Fundraising Chairman Sharon Stone and long-time amfAR supporter, Harvey Weinstein. The highlights of the sale included a gilded woolly mammoth skeleton in a colossal steel and glass vitrine titled ‘Gone but not Forgotten’ which was created by renowned artist Damien Hirst, and a Bulgari ‘Serpenti’ necklace, made of white gold with a 13 carat drop shape Aquamarine and 19.2 carats of pave diamonds. The ‘Serpenti’ necklace sold for US$546,000.
Some of the VIPs attending the gala included Milla Jovovich, Heidi Klum, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Aishwarya Rai, Carine Roitfeld, Bulgari Group Chief Executive Officer Jean-Christophe Babin, Adrien Brody, Kylie Minogue, Karolina Kurkova, Jane Fonda, Marion Cotillard, etc.
