A deluge of whisky aficionados toasted to the arrival of The Edrington Group’s The Naked Grouse in Hong Kong last Thursday. The Fringe Club was transformed into a grungy concert hall – guests clinked glasses while bobbing their heads to the beats of Hong Kong-based acapella group Metro.
Most interestingly the packaging has been pared down to the minimum: at first glance it lacks a label, yet upon closer inspection, guests would find that the brand logo is actually debossed onto the face of the bottle.
The dram is not to be underestimated of course. A deluxe blend including the likes of The Macallan and Highland Park, the Naked Grouse is slow-matured in first fill sweet sherry casks. The nose is a robust mix of dried fruits, nuts and ark chocolate. On the palate it is a smooth and creamy blend of tropical fruits, toffee and sponge cakes. Wait for the rich and lingering finish.
