The IWC Schaffhausen sponsored Plastiki expedition, an 8,000 nautical mile voyage from San Francisco to Sydney in a boat constructed from 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles; arrived yesterday in Sydney.

The 130-day trip was designed to highlight the damage we inflict on our oceans through plastic pollution and instead urges us to recycle and find alternative uses for our plastic waste.

Led by David de Rothschild, the crew all wore an IWC Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth Edition “Adventure Ecology”, and a unique, platinum version is currently being auctioned to support the cause.

Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, said: We are incredibly proud of David de Rothschild and the Adventure Ecology team, and overjoyed that he and his crew have tackled this adventurous voyage so successfully.”

During the course of the trip, an estimated two billion plastic bottles were disposed of in the USA alone.
