Bottega Veneta And The Art of Collaboration

Luxury brand Bottega Veneta trades on its low-key and subdued image in their Fall 2009 collection while also premiering a new online initiative called , with fashion photographer Steven Meisel.

Eccentricity is everywhere in the collection, from the appearance of grape and bramble amidst a muted palette of colors to the rectangular silhouette of the clothes – squared at the shoulder but pulled in to the body at the chest or waist.

Nevertheless, this eccentricity never takes over the collection, which is artfully restrained and refined to a fault. Like the brand’s signature woven leather, everything is interlaced to create something new.

On the collaboration with Meisel, Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier has this to say: “I admire the intelligence that he brings to fashion. He approaches clothes with an understanding of the women who wear them and an awareness of the cultural context in which fashion exists.”

Meisel is of course a powerful force in fashion photography, having helped shape the industry for close to 30 years. He joins the likes of Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Stephen Shore, Lord Snowdon and Annie Leibovitz in helping create a campaign for Bottega Veneta.
