3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2014 collection is designed for you play while you work, or work while you play. The modern woman, Lim reasons, combines both. Day dresses had officially made a comeback, knocking out the jeans-and-a-nice-top look for twentysomething women who flocked to his racks for little babydoll dresses and rosette-appliquéd shifts.
Along with flounce and volume, the collection features pieces made of sponge polyester crepe that’s perforated by a laser, which, when folded in a certain way gives that feminine silhouette on a dress; or a shift of nude cotton organdy layered over plain, white cotton and gathered at the waist.
“It’s been such a watershed past year,” Phillip said. “I’m finally seeing a light and moving away from the sophomore blues.” He spoke of streamlining his collection, refining past hits. Proportions were abbreviated and widened, but the aggressive styling Lim has favored in the past was tempered this season.
