Spotify finally launched in Singapore on 16 April – at noon to be exact, as part of its push to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland and Mexico (if only proper Mexican food in Singapore came as part of the deal). The launch comes six long years after Spotify’s beta release in Stockholm in 2008, and almost a year after iTunes decided Singapore was cool enough, although, we’re really still waiting for an Apple Store.
Being a later market has its perks, as Spotify comes fully formed: it is the leading music streaming service. It not only offers free streaming of a huge library of songs, it is also legal and the suite of features cover what we’ve come to expect: including recommendations and “radio stations” tuned to your listening history and ratings. This means that from here on, Singapore’s music fans get to enjoy on-demand, non-illegal access to over 20 million tracks, at zero cost. Skip the hassle of having to buy or download – just hit the “Play” button is all it takes. Isn’t that what we all love?

Spotify offers two great ways to get your music started:
Spotify Free. Instant music for free on your computer, featuring ads.
Spotify Premium. Your music is everywhere, on all devices. Download music and listen offline – plane, train or living room, the right music is always there for you. Enhanced sound quality. No ads. All for only S$9.90 a month.
“Spotify offers everything you could possibly want from a music service; it’s free, it’s fast, it’s simple and it sounds fantastic – try it once and you’ll love it.” said Sriram Krishnan, Head of New Markets, Asia Pacific for Spotify.
He added: “We want to bring you the right music for every moment. Play, discover and share – Spotify really is your perfect music player.”
Spotify is the most successful music service of its kind globally, with over 24 million active users and over 6 million paying subscribers. For more information or to sign up for Spotify, visit www.spotify.com.
