Highland Park has unveiled what is reportedly the world’s oldest island single malt, a 50 year old produced at their base on the Orkney Islands.

Distilled in 1960, Highland Park 50 is vatted from five refill oak casks and bottled at 44.8% ABV. The liquid has a dark maple colour, the nose offers hints of tobacco and the flavour is rich and spicy.

The bottle was designed by Scottish jeweller Maeve Gillies and is in a nod to the famous rose window of the St Magnus Cathedral. It features an Orkney sandstone amulet set on sterling silver.

Limited to 275 bottles, each one is priced at £10,000.
