In a joint project with Saudi Arabia, Chinese authorities are planning to build a 7-star hotel modelled on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
The hotel will be erected in western Beijing’s Mentougou district, 30 kilometres from the city centre. Whilst it remains unclear why the underdeveloped rural area has been chosen as the site of the project, it has been confirmed that its design will replicate the 828-metre Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building.
The project is estimated to cost $1.3 billion, with the Saudis paying the entire bill.
