Acker Merrall & Condit, thr world’s largest wine auction house, celebrates their fifth-year presence in Asia with an auction on May 31 and June 1 in Hong Kong that achieved US$5.8 million.
The sales last weekend, at the Island Shangri-la and the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, set 96 new auction records, led by Bordeaux and Burgundy and auctioned an impressive 1,100 lots of the world’s finest wines, 93% of which were sold.
The wines included many Premier and Grand Crus from the cellars of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. Other highlights included cases of Romanée-Conti and 1982 Bordeaux and a ten-case collection of Krug Clos de Mesnil. The top lot was an original wooden case containing 12 bottles of 1988 Romanée-Conti, which sold for US$145,077.
The profitable sale has reaffirmed Acker as the world’s largest wine auction house, and has also made their 2013 total amount to US$17.57 million so far.
“The sale was a significant milestone in our history as we celebrated our 5th anniversary of auctioning the finest and rarest wines in Hong Kong. It is amazing to think how different the fine wine market is today compared to five years ago, and we are very proud to have played such an important role,” said John Kapon, CEO of Acker Merrall & Condit.
