With this year’s theme “InspirAsian” the young and talented designer from Singapore, Haziq Putra (21) received the Audi Young Designer Award with an additional cash prize of S$10,000 for his collection “Pursuit to Freedom.” Prizes of S$ 10,000 and a one-year work experience with leading fashion retailer FJ Benjamin were also given to the other 2 winners Vu Ta Linh (26) from Vietnam for “The contour”, and Sun Yi Jin (24), For “Return”.
Haziq’s menswear collection was inspired by his trip to Kelantan, Malaysia. His manually dyed Batik was discovered from the combination of two distinct Kelantan icons, the WauBulan (a giant kite) and the ikanpari (stingray), which led him to victory.
The annual fashion design competition for Asians, which has entered into its 4th year in 2013, opened its doors at the Tent @Marina Promenade to showcase the 16 finalists designs, shortlisted from 355 entries. The three winners announced at the end of the show, were under deliberation of 7 judges, David Wong, Douglas Benjamin, Jeff Mannering, Alfie Leong, Colin McDowell, and Ruth Marshall-Johnson.
