Warren Buffett, one of the worlds richest men, philanthropist and investor, is donating a total of US$2.6 billion in stocks to five charities.
Buffett is the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, and in 2010 in conjunction with Bill Gates, began the Giving Pledge and announced that they would donate at least half of their fortune to charity over time, and encouraged some of the worlds wealthiest people to do the same. As of April 2013, Giving Pledge now has 105 billionaires pledging to donate their wealth to charity.
$2 billion of his donation will go to the Gates Foundation, an organization founded by Bill Gates and his wife Melinda. The charity aims to improve healthcare and reduce poverty worldwide, but also have a domestic focus on improving opportunities to education and information technology.
Buffett is reportedly doing so in order to give away the majority of his wealth before he dies.
