Ever since introducing military-grade ballistic nylon for use in its travel bags 30 years ago Tumi has firmly cemented itself as a producer of high quality luggage. Now the brand has enlisted the help of five local artists to breathe new life into the material.
As part of Tumi’s ‘Makes Life Beautiful’ campaign, the artists were given free rein over the subject matter, transforming the famously resistant material into a couture gown, photography art, candle holders, wooden pallets and 3D art.
Participating artists include fashion designer Barney Cheng, celebrity photographer Sean Lee Davis, graphic and product designer Millicent Lai, 3D artist Ben Quek and creative agency &Larry.
The second part of the campaign saw 13 Asian artists transform the brand’s Alpha Lightweight Case into various functional and art objects including a picnic kit, rocking chair and flying kite installation.
The 18 pieces will go on view at various locations around Asia including Singapore, Japan and Taiwan.
