Master classes from whisky houses are nothing new but after the conclusion of Toast the Macallan in Singapore, we thought we would highlight the imminent arrival of the same in Hong Kong! Not a single class but a series of classes, The Macallan seeks to guide connoisseurs on a sensorial journey. The program at the Liang Yi Museum from March 19-21 involves examining the very foundations of The Macallan, the Six Pillars. The picture we’ve chosen here highlights what these Six Pillars are about but you have to experience them yourself to understand. The sessions in Hong Kong offer limited seats to both the press and consumers who might want, as the official press release says, to take a journey through “time and space.”

Very briefly, here are the Six Pillars of The Macallan;
- The Spiritual Home – This is Easter Elchies House, which houses the distillery in Speyside,Scotland. Built in 1700, this Jacobean manor house is The Macallan’s spiritual home.
- The Curiously Small Stills – The signature stills that concentrate the flavor of the ‘new make’ spirit.
- The Finest Cut – The distilled spirit collected from the stills, which is a mere 16% at The Macallan.
- The Exceptional Oak Casks – The wood makes the spirit what it is; The Macallan says it spends more per cask than any other distillery in sourcing, crafting, seasoning and caring for its casks.
- The Natural Color – No artificial colors are added.
- The Peerless Spirit – The whisky maker keeps an eye and nose on the casks, waiting to catch the spirit at the peak of its powers.
