It is no longer news that the Singapore Airlines International Cup held at the Singapore Turf Club, belongs once more to Hong Kong’s Dan Excel, after the recently concluded SIA Cup (May 18), but it is remarkable that trainer John Moore also trained 2013’s winner, Military Attack, making him the only trainer to win the main prize thrice. The gelding Dan Excel pipped both Military Attack and Singapore-based Quechua to the post, picking up the trophy and the SGD3 million prize money. In the day’s other race, the SGD1 million KrisFlyer International Sprint, Aerovelocity picked up the title.
Dan Excel’s win, trainer Moore’s new record and the performance of local hope Quechua were the subject of much discussion in the run-up to the race, with many writing off any chance the Singapore horses might have had. On that front at least, it seems Quechua has out down the naysayers… By the way, for those who care to know, the shot of the snakes (all the way below) was taken at the gala dinner, the night before the big races. We are not sure what that was about but suffice to say that sometimes strange things happen at gala dinners.
