Moscow, one of today’s most affluent and expensive cities to live in, has come a long way since the days of Stalin. The economic powerhouse today features an interesting juxtaposition of the old and new.

To take in the sights and sounds of all that Moscow has to offer, head to the The Ritz-Carlton’s award-winning rooftop bar O2 Lounge, located on the 12th storey.

Encased within a futuristic glass dome with “floor-to-ceiling” prism windows, enjoy stunning vistas of the famous St Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin, the Spasskaya tower and the Red Square while you sip on an eclectic mix of cocktails with quirky names like “Ma(r)ry me blondie”. You might just witness a demonstration of opening a champagne bottle the old Russian way – that is, using a saber.

There’s also an adjoining sushi bar where you can chuck oysters and lobsters or wolf down sushi prepared using fish that’s specially flown in from Japan’s famous Tsukiji market. Alternatively, enjoy a languid afternoon smoking a specially designed Hookah (or Shisha) pipes made in the Czech Republic from Bohemian Crystal.
