Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC Mr Baey Yam Keng, known for his frequent selfies and strong presence on social media, will be starring in a Mandarin play written by his wife, theatre practitioner Lim Hai Yen.
From Dec 4 to 7, Mr Baey will play a romantic blogger in Like Me. I Like, which will take a look at Singapore’s obsession with social media and its impact on daily life. While this is not his first stage role, it is the first time that he will be headlining a theatre production. It will run at the School of the Arts.
Mr Baey will be sharing the stage with Chinese radio DJs Foong Wai See (冯慧诗) and Chung Kun Hua (钟坤华), while composer and musician Dick Lee will be overseeing the cast’s costumes.
Ms Lim will be directing the “heartwarming” and “lighthearted” show, which is set in an advertising firm and will involve various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The online and offline friendships and relationships that develop in the office are observed by the firm’s omniscient pet hamster.
All proceeds from the production will go to the Tampines North CC Community Development & Welfare Fund and the Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni Students Bursary Fund. Regular tickets are priced at $38, but those who pay a little extra at $88 will get an invite to a cast party on Dec 8.
