Various pieces of furniture designed by Michael Jackson and a host of other items belonging to the star are to be sold on June 25 through Julien Auctions.
Before his untimely death, he had commissioned Colombostile Artisans to make 22 pieces of furniture for his new house in Kent, England. This was where he had planned to stay throughout his upcoming “This Is It” concert tour and the lots are the pieces that would have filled his private residence.
A recreation of the house in Kent will be on display at the auction, providing an idea of what the singer had actually envisaged. The auction house said: “Michael’s fans and the public will experience how the entertainer’s home would have looked like with his custom designed” furniture.
There are plenty of highlights from the collection, though as you’d imagine, the designs are pretty radical. The collection includes several armchairs upholstered in mother of pearl or platinum-gold leaf (estimated at $18,500) and two with gold double-headed eagle embroidery ($60,000).
It also includes a 17th century style gilt ebonized wood writing desk with mother of pearl inlay ($120,000) and a Baroque red velvet and gilt sofa with stone inlay ($150,000).
The auction will also feature more than 200 items from Jackson’s life and career, including a signed “Beat It” jacket ($8,000-12,000) Jackson’s white Swarovski Crystal Glove ($30,000) and signed “Bad” Lyrics ($2,000-4,000).
The sale is part of a “Music Icons” summer auction taking place at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino Las Vegas. Other artists who’ll feature include Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley and Britney Spears.
