Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld has designed a lot of things—like luxury clothes and, um, Diet Coke bottles—but can you guess what he’s working on next?
The Sofitel Luxury Hotel company has just announced that they’ve commissioned Karl Lagerfeld to design the logo for its newest property—the Sofitel So in Singapore.
“I am very proud to announce this inspirational collaboration, which is a perfect illustration of Sofitel Luxury Hotels’ ambitions with regard to excellence and elegance,” Sofitel CEO Robert Gamer-Jones said. “His exceptional creativity and talent will confer on our emblem the ultimate touch of refinement and enhance our concept.”
The Sofitel So brand is a new hotel concept from the French hospitality company that combines Sofitel’s signature experience with individual international fashion designer and artist touches at individual locations. For example, Sofitel So Mauritius was customized by Kenzo Takada. And the Sofitel So Bangkok was fancied-up by couturier Christian Lacroix.
Karl Lagerfeld will serve as the signature designer for the So in Singapore—a 134 guest room property that is scheduled to open mid-year.
“Having Karl Lagerfeld as the ‘Signature Designer’ for the distinctive Sofitel So Singapore was an obvious choice to us, allowing us to pay homage to the country’s symbolic heritage building with an iconic design collaboration,” said Managing Director of Royal Group Holdings Bobby Hiranandani.
