At Fide Fashion Weeks, WTF was honored to have a quick moment to catch-up with Alex Minksy, a former-US-Marine-turned-model, who’s courage has truly inspired many, with a standing ovation for the shows he walked on.
The 24 year old, who lost his right leg in Afghanistan, walked alongside other male models for the mens Prêt-à-Porter shows.
Best known for his provocative photos and underwear shoots, the strapping model is also known for his ripped physique which is covered in a myriad of tattoos. Alex, who was discovered in a Los Angeles gym when he was working out, now wears a prosthetic leg, after his truck ran over an explosive, which put him in a 47-day coma. Following his accident, he suffered from depression and turned to alcohol to help him cope, until he decided to face his problems and started working out.
Since then, he has been showing off the results of his daily four-hour workouts and posts updates on his Facebook page, Twitter page, Instagram page, to serve as an inspiration to other people with disabilities. He is now a successful underwear model who rivals the likes of David Beckham.
His presence is a testament that fashion can indeed transcend boundaries. Fashion is often an inspiration to many, but for Alex, fashion has helped to turn his life around. As Alex himself put it, “Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come.”
