Sarah Davenport (pictured below) of Davenport Designers and Cabinetmakers in the United Kingdom has put a quirky twist on a musical classic by creating a piano that rocks – literally. The unique design, a world’s first, has been christened “Chichi”, and was launched at this year’s Designerblock in London.

Davenport’s rocking piano was crafted around a standard baby grand from the 1900s, the exact same one which used to belong to the ambassador of Hong Kong, with a design meant to convey the same thoughts and human emotions as the music it plays.

Finished with a mirrored surface and veneered Canadian Rock Maple, the rocking piano currently resides in the Croyden Campus of Halton’s Riverside College, for use in the school’s performance arts studies.
