Barbie Plays Foosball

The largely male-dominated world of foosball is given a violently pink update with French designer Chloe Ruchon’s Barbiefoot.

A play on the French term for table soccer Babyfoot, Barbiefoot features flaxen-haired dolls ruling the court instead of the usual scruffy plastic players. Never one to compromise on style, the unabashedly girly design sees the iconic Barbies decked out in coordinated pink and white outfits.

With support from Mattel and Babyfoot Bonzini, Ruchon’s design, which originally showed at the DMY International Design Festival in Berlin, attempts to challenge pre-conceived notions of femininity and masculinity, and bridge the gap between the two worlds.
