The mood shifted around Christopher Esber this season. It was only slight, but after seasons presenting as Australia’s next “up-and-comer”, the industry is starting to look at Esber as a not-to-be-missed highlight on the MBFWA schedule. Taking out the Australian chapter of the International Woolmark Prize this year definitely helped, but it’s his consistently crowd-pleasing collections that have really earned Esber the cred.
After watching Christopher Esber’s Spring Summer 2014/15 showcase we are certain of one thing — the Esber woman means business next season. Perhaps it was the sharply-tailored, double breasted military jackets that invoked the no-nonsense vibe, or maybe it was silk, side-spliced midi skirts that we didn’t want to cross. Either way, everything about this line was made for the collected, confident woman.
Leather and navy were two strong trends in the show, which was mostly void of any overtly bright colour. Esber (also known as the Australian master of minimalism in our books) teamed up with Sydney stylist Romy Frydman for the presentation. The duo paired tailored short-shorts with sharp blazers, and intrdouced a series of skirt-and-top ensembles we’re keen to recreate this Spring.
