A lunch date with Warren Buffett -billionaire investor and Forbes’ second richest human on Earth- is so highly prized, that the recently concluded auction to dine with him peaked at $1.68 million.

Eager participants, whether hoping to be inspired by nuggets of business wisdom from Buffett, or purely to enjoy the pleasure of his company, started bidding via Ebay from 22 June for the opportunity.

Now in its tenth run, proceeds from the annual auction will once more benefit the Glide Foundation to lend a helping hand to San Francisco’s poor and homeless.

Last year’s winner, Zhao Danyang from Hong Kong, forked out a generous $2.1 million for the lunch.

This time round, the winner, whose name has yet to be disclosed, will lunch at Smith & Wollensky’s steakhouse in New York along with seven other friends and Buffett himself.
