The world’s largest ‘pay-in’ airport lounge opened today at Hong Kong International Airport. After a series of quick speeches those attending the grand opening were treated to a traditional Chinese lion dance.

Created by Plaza Premium Lounge, the 15,000 square foot facility covers a large area but feels snug and personal at the same time. So if you’ve got some time to kill before catching a flight and you fancy being in a smart, private alcove, then whatever your airline or seat status, you simply pay your fee and pop in.

The Travelers’ Lounge East is carefully split into various sections for entertainment, business, dining and the like. They’ve created some brand spanking new shower facilities in which to cleanse and refresh yourself but best of all, you’ll be able to tuck into their spa and massage services.

It’s open 24 hours a day and food is available round the clock. The lounge allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the masses, recharge and simply do your stuff before quietly boarding your plane.

Mr. Song Hoi See, the CEO of Plaza Premium Lounge Management Limited said: “The Travelers’ Lounge is the culmination of efforts dating back over 10 years, when the idea of a pay-in airport lounge was first flagged here in Hong Kong – a lounge that provided premium service to all travelers.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, Mr. Stanley Hui continued: “The Travelers’ Lounge is… a fresh addition to the wide range of top-notch services offered at Hong Kong International Airport.” He added: “It’s the best non-airline operated lounge I’ve seen.”

Inside you’ll find the lighting mellow, colourings in beige, cream and browns and there are several engaging architectural features. Kinney Chan (the designer) thinks his favourite characteristics are the slim logs of wood that curve round the wall to appear soft and curtain-like.

In a customers survey 94% of people said they would recommend the lounge to their friends. And they’re right. If you do need a place to chill for a few hours at HKIA, you know where to go.
