Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open its first European hotel in the 16th arrondissement of Paris on December 17.

Built in 1896 for Napoleon’s grand-nephew Prince Roland Bonaparte, Shangri-La’s Parisian residence is smaller than its other properties but offers huge historical significance.

It comprises 81 rooms including 27 suites designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon with the penthouse ‘Suite Panoramique’ leading the way. It boasts over 100 square metres (1,076 square feet) of outdoor deck.

Meanwhile another feature of the hotel is that 40 per cent of the rooms and 60 per cent of the suites feature unobstructed views of the Eiffel Tower and the River Seine – a unique attribute in Paris. Nearly half of all the rooms also boast balconies.

“Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is honoured to have been entrusted the preservation of this significant part of French heritage,” said Alain Borgers, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Paris. “Whether for accommodation, dining, entertaining or celebrating special events, we are eager to welcome Parisians and visitors to reveal this Parisian treasure and offer our signature style of hospitality.”

As far as dining is concerned you can choose from La Bauhinia, an all-day dining restaurant and lounge; a French gourmet restaurant called L’Abeille; and the city’s first gourmet Cantonese restaurant, Shang Palace, which will open in early 2011.
