On Saturday the 4th of March 2017, a variety of business women from around Singapore gathered at Resorts World Theatre to celebrate and support the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Career Women’s Group (SCCCI-CWG) for the annual International Women’s Day celebrations. Themed Women for Women, SCCCI-CWG Her World IWD 2017 brought women together from diverse professions to celebrate the strength of women.
This was also the first time a concert had been incorporated into the event in order to raise funds for two charitable organisations – Tsao Foundation’s Hua Mei Centre and the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
The Guest of Honour, Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth presented a very informative and moving speech where she covered topics like ‘Supporting one a another and the importance of networks, Promoting gender equality at home, Increasing women’s participation in the workplace and Women in need in society. She spoke in depth about championing women in business with training and mentorship programmes, networking opportunities and effective measurement of the progress of women to senior leadership positions. The CRIB Pte Ltd was mentioned as a good example of a local initiative by women to help fellow women become successful entrepreneurs.
In her conclusion she indicated that women have indeed come a long way in Singapore but are still facing obstacles and put it out to the public, that we all answer the call to take proactive actions in promoting a more gender equal society.
