Mount Gay Rum orchestrated a hearty party for the 2013 Neptune Regatta in Singapore recently, celebrating its own status as title sponsor. Officially called the Notice of Race party, the event was held at the Nueva Cuba Bar at Marina Bay where brand owner Remy Cointreau announced that Mount Gay is extending its sponsorship of the regatta by three years. The Neptune Regatta is essentially a race across the equator, taking place entirely in the nearby Indonesian archipelago of Riao.
The @WTFSG team likes its rum and its boating quite a bit so no surprise that we turned up for this. We also very much like the fact that Mount Gay – the oldest rum brand in the world – is serving up excellent wood barrel-aged rum here (and in the rest of Asia), which anyone who won the ‘Extra Old’ bottles at the NOC party can attest to. Of course, the presence of rum at party full of sailors is completely unsurprising, given the history of this particular spirit (conjure up Jack Sparrow if you must but if a true gentleman remembers Lord Nelson).
Mount Gay itself sponsors more than 100 regattas worldwide, with the next Neptune Regatta itself running from February 10 to 16, 2013.
