Luxury watch brand Hublot SA and watch retailer The Hour Glass held a grand ball in honor of the Swiss brand’s King Power collection. Supremely imposing, watches in the King Power collection celebrate grandeur, technical excellence and unmistakable masculinity.
Echoing this sentiment, the party at the Orchard Residence Showsuite at Paterson Road, Singapore, was an opulent affair, right from the moment the the giant drum (and suitably large drummer) sounded the arrival of the guests . One arrival in particular was significant: Hublot SA CEO and watch legend Jean-Claude Biver and The Hour Glass Chairman Dr. Henry Tay rolling up the driveway in – unbelievably – a Morgan.
More than the razzmatazz of the models and the splendor of the setting, this moment encapsulated the Hublot proposition. Judging by the number of wrists already adorned with Hublot watches this evening, it is a proposition that is implicitly understood.
Not surprisingly, the other highlights of the dinner and party, hosted by Denise Keller who stunned in her Ashley Isham gown, all involved the ebullient Biver. At one point, singer Alicia Pan (who was wearing the lauded Hublot One Million Dollar Black Caviar Bang) entreated Biver to join her on stage for a rendition of Big Spender and – good sport that he is – he obliged.
He also showed his fondness for the finer things in life and unbridled extravagance by flying in cheese from his own private farm for the dinner. Finally, the man once credited with turning the mechanical watch industry around showed that he’s not just in it for the hijinks.
A noted philanthropist, Biver used this event to pledge SGD1,000 for every Hublot timepiece worn by his guests to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. A total of SGD37,000 was raised by night’s end.
