German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne celebrated the opening of its flagship boutique in Singapore – only its eight in the world – with great fanfare and a watchmaking exhibition called “State of the Art Tradition”. More than 150 guests, including the most sophisticated watch collectors from Singapore and Southeast Asia, attended the official opening cocktail and the fantastic “State of the Art Tradition” exhibition.
Our friend Peter Chong, the founder of the A. Lange & Söhne forum on Timezone and author of A. Lange & Söhne: The Pour le Mérite Collection was present of course. The boutique is more like an embassy, as A. Lange & Söhne CEO Wilhelm Schmid said during his remarks to the press, for those collectors or even passersby who have never been to the heart of German watchmaking in Glashütte, Saxony. It is but a taste of the traditions at work at the manufacture.
As far as the exhibition is concerned, the demonstration of the delicate art of engraving the balance cock was highly illuminating. The engraver showed such steady hands as to defy belief. That the trio A. Lange & Söhne brought to Singapore (watchmaker, finisher and engraver) worked with supreme commitment and confidence in a room full of gawking spectators is impressive. The celebrations ended with a gala dinner at ION Sky and Salt Grill & Sky Bar.
