The three Michelin starred Catalan chef, Santi Santamaria, died late on Wednesday in Singapore after collapsing during a presentation at his newly opened restaurant in the Marina Bay Sands.
Santamaria, who was the first Catalan chef to earn three Michelin stars for his restaurant ‘Can Fabes’ in Spain, was one of six high-profile chefs showcased at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands, which officially opened on Thursday.
The tragic news was met with the following statement from George Tanasijevich, interim chief executive of Marina Bay Sands: “We have lost a great chef and a beloved member of our big family here.”
Santamaria was a critic of the unorthodox, molecular gastronomy of his compatriot Ferran Adria, and the man as well as his cooking, will be sorely missed.
