The Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready-To-Wear (KLFW) takes place from 18th – 22nd June 2014 for the second consecutive year at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. KLFW announced it’s partnership with Tourism Malaysia alongside a panel of notable sponsors. Hosted by Andrews Models, KLFW will feature over 80 Malaysian fashion designers in their pursuit to enliven the retail industry.
The main focus this year is ‘THE RUNWAY COLLECTION’, a selection of runway-worthy, distinctive new lines and structures that have yet made it to the mass market. KLFW is challenging Malaysia’s fashion designers to command presence, not just on the stage but also in the local and international market. The event is recognized as a B2C (Business To Consumer) platform, allowing designers to connect with customers. With the support of Tourism Malaysia, KLFW hopes to garner more international appeal to attract revenue for the industry.
In its second year, KLFW will be featuring designers such as Farah Khan, Khoon Hooi, Tom Abang Saufi by Iman, Carven Ong, Syaiful Baharim, Sazzy Falak, Jonathan Liang, Silas Liew, Jovian Mandagie, Alia Bastamam, PU3, Zakwan Anuar, Kavita Kaur, Syomir Izwa, Innai Red, Joe Chia, Mizz Nina and more for a presentation that will bring fashion enthusiasts together over 5 exciting days.
Adding to the roster are two new shows titled UITM8 and SHOW3; the former highlighting eight top fashion design students of MARA University of Technology and the latter featuring names who will be making their first appearances as new Malaysian fashion labels. These are the ones to watch as KLFW introduces and increases awareness of our homegrown young talent on the fashion front. KLFW also revealed that three guest designers from Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines – soon to be announced – would be invited to showcase on the Malaysian runway.
This marks the beginning of the organization’s effort to introduce Malaysian Ready-To- Wear brands regionally by working with other fashion weeks and cross promoting with Tourism Malaysia. A crucial process of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week is also makeup and hair styling, for which Bobbi Brown and Miko Galere are partners respectively.
Bobbi Brown Cosmetics will be bringing in five international makeup artists to support KLFW. Leading the international team will be Felix Nguyen (Assistant Manager of Education, Bobbi Brown Asia Pacific). Joining him is Sila and Tiwa (National Makeup Artists, Bobbi Brown Thailand) and Ice and Alvin (National Makeup Artists, Bobbi Brown Taiwan). All five are familiar faces at various fashion weeks all over the world and have amassed their own legion of fans through their artistry and creativity.
Amplifying the excitement is Fashionably KL, an on-ground fringe event involving three pop-up stores around Kuala Lumpur. The first pop-up store is slated to take place from 22nd – 25th May 2014 at LOT 10, located on the exhilarating Jalan Bukit Bintang, followed by Avenue K at Jalan Ampang on 5th – 8th June 2014. The Parkamaya pop-up store at Fahrenheit88 returns for its second year concurrent with the first day of KLFW from 18th June 2014 ending on 30th June 2014.
Fashionably KL is initiated by KLFW as an additional platform for designers to succeed in the Ready-To- Wear market, bringing the items closer to the public. Emerging Malaysian designers will set up booths where their Ready-To-Wear items are made available for purchase.
Also in support of KLFW is MyCreative, a government investment arm to spur Malaysia’s creative industry via strategic and innovative funding in a form of equity or debt investments. Launched in 2012, MyCreative aims to elevate the status of the local creative industry, including fashion and design for start ups and established companies.
KLFW’s official car sponsor Maserati will take a leading role in Drive In Style, an on-ground activity leading up to the fashion week to gear up fashionistas with giveaways from supporting partners. Catch Malaysian celebrities such as Sazzy Falak, Carey Ng, Hunny Madu and Kayda as they drive in style with Maserati to Pavilion, Fahrenheit88, Lot 10 and Avenue K to meet and greet fans while conducting Q&As to give away prizes.
KLFW’s official launch party will be held on 12th June 2014 at Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur, supported by beverage sponsor Reyka and Solerno.
