Loewe introduces the Barcelona bag, a new element in an expanding edit of items to be used in tandem for different purposes and times of a woman’s day. With the Barcelona, a new shoulder bag joins the strong identities of the recently launched Puzzle, and of the improved icons Amazona and Flamenco. Designed by Jonathan Anderson, the Barcelona was introduced at Loewe’s Fall Winter presentation in Paris earlier this year. It unites a completely new shape with distinctive geometric detailing taken from the Loewe archives to reveal a different facet of the evolving character that Anderson has introduced over the last seasons.
Aesthetic and functional, a unique metal and calf leather triangle makes a strong visual statement that sets the Barcelona apart from other bags available today, injecting its classic envelope shape with an unmistakable modernity while also serving as a fastening closure. The Barcelona’s characteristic form, it’s contemporary versatility – it can be worn over the shoulder or as a clutch – and, in particular, the bold color palette and rich materials it comes in make it highly desirable.
The Barcelona is available in combinations of suede, premium calf, patent leather and exotic skins like crocodile, ostrich and python. In designing the new bag, Anderson and his team maximised the special way in which suede absorbs pigment and light, resulting in a spectrum of deep hues that range from vivid blues, reds and turquoise to wintery caramels and an all-black iteration in calf and patent leather that’s perfect for night.
Like all of Loewe’s essential bags designed and reinterpreted by Anderson, the Barcelona is thought out down to the smallest detail, as evinced by intelligent functional pockets and a full napa lining. The Barcelonawill be in stores around the world in September 2015.
