If ‘power’ watches make you weak in the knees then it is a good thing you are sitting down right now; meet the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari, a wristwatch with a 50-day power reserve. Take a minute to process that information. Yes, this watch was developed alongside Ferrari’s replacement for the Enzo, LaFerarri, hence the name. This also explains why Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo is pictured wearing one below. Shaped very much like a contemporary engine block, with pistons in the ‘V’ configuration Ferrari favors, the MP-05 has 11 barrels working together (series coupled) to deliver that massive 50-day (1,200 hours) power reserve. Our friendly neighborhood retailers explained to us at BaselWorld that winding this mechanical wonder requires a special tool – an electronically-powered gizmo that will make you feel a little like an F1 pit crew member changing a tire when you get down to winding your watch. We shall have more to say about this limited edition (50 pieces) wristwatch – it definitely makes one of our lists – but for now we leave you to imagine the dimensions of this kinetic machine. Here is a helpful hint: the movement alone measures 45.8mm x 39.5mm.
