Earlier this month some of Hong Kong’s brightest young designers competed and showed their wares at the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition by Hong Kong Fur Federation.
Held at the InterContinental, Hong Kong on January 7 the theme of this year’s presentation was ‘Galaxy Superstar’, a look back at the thumping 80s.
329 sketches were submitted from which 26 within the Full Fur category and 14 from the Fur Combination Category made it through to the final round of judging held on the night.
The judging panel comprised of the Consul-General of the Consulate General of Royal Danish in the HKSAR, Mr. Jørgen Møllegaard; the International Marketing Director of the North American Fur Association, Ms. Diane Benedetti; the Director of Cyril Murkin (HK) Ltd, Mr. Timothy Everest; the Marketing Director of the Saga Furs for Hong Kong, China and Korea, Ms. Nora Tse; the fashion designers Ms. Lu Lu Cheung and Mr. Dorian Ho; as well as the famous artist Ms. Pat Ha, and the socialites Ms. Florinda Ho and Mr. Andrew Yuen.
There were a few big winners in the competition. Yeung Long Hei picked up the gong for best sketch award. Wong Chau Hung triumphed in the Fur Combination Category with a cashmere knitted mini cape. And Yau Yim Fun Natalie’s poncho in gradation from black to white, trimmed with ruffled sheared mink and mink tassels was the pick of the bunch in the Full Fur Category.
Ms. Erika Lam, Chairlady of the Young Execut ive Committee was thrilled with the event. She said: “We are all delighted that this Competition, in its 24th year, has become imperative in exploring original ideas from budding creative talents as well as nurturing new blood to propel the growth of the Hong Kong fur industry.”
To cap off the evening was a “Designers Love Fur” show. In the limelight were several Hong Kong designers including amongst others Ms. Bonita Cheung, Mr. Arthur Lam and Mr. Kevin Yeung who presented their collections all made by various members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation.
