Talk about a power lunch. This year’s Warren Buffett charity lunch auction has scored a record bid of US$2.6 million in an online eBay auction. The anonymous (and generous) bidder added $111 to trump last year’s record.
Proceeds from the astronomical meal with the legendary investor will go to Glide, a San Francisco-based organization that was a favorite of Buffett’s late first wife, Susan. Glide provides financial assistance to low-income residents of the San Francisco Bay area. “Buffett’s generosity, and that of the winning bidders, has provided meals, health care, job training, rehabilitation and housing support to help lift people out of these hard times,” Reverend Cecil Williams, Glide’s founder, said in a statement.
The winner will dine with the so-called Oracle of Omaha and up to seven guests of their choice at the Smith & Wollensky steak house in New York City.
