Following the announcement made by Kering early in December 2014, that the Creative Director of Gucci, Frida Giannini will be leaving her position at the end of February this year, there has been a lot of speculation as to who will be taking over the helm. Frida’s swansong was supposed to be Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2015-2016 womenswear show February 25. Those expecting to Frida take her final bow at the end of the show however, will be disappointed as the designer has already left the label – a month early.
The label has been quite tight-lipped about her early departure, affirming only that Frida is “no longer in her role as creative director”. As we mentioned in our post about the announcement Kering made about the exit of Frida and her partner Patrizio di Marco – who was the former Chief Executive Officer of Gucci – there has been some question as to why the two are leaving the label. Rumour has it that reason the Gucci power couple left the label is not an amicable one.
“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding contribution that Frida Giannini has made to Gucci’s legacy during her nine-year tenure as creative director,” said Marco Bizzarri, the new president and Chief Executive Officer of Gucci, in a statement made on January 12.
Vogue reckons that the role of Creative Director at Gucci might go to Alessandro Michele who is currently the head accessories designer at the label.
