Macau’s latest luxury complex is the water-themed City of Dreams, a massive resort designed by US-based architects Arquitectonica featuring a 420,000 square foot casino, 175,000 square foot of retail space and three world-class hotels in a fantasy land of glistening whirlpools and waterfalls.
Developed by Melco Crown Entertainment, the resort boasts a seamless water-featured experience, with its four glass-encased towers and casino podium bouncing off light from the pools and fountains at its base.
Also in the package are quality entertainment experiences, with 20 restaurants and bars dotting the establishment, with the highlight being The Bubble – a dome shaped theatre that will play host to productions by Dragone Group (of Cirque du Soleil fame).
City of Dreams’ grand opening on 1 June was an impressive display of fireworks, pyrotechnics and the first-ever showcase of the multimedia extravaganza Dragon’s Treasure at the Bubble.
And while this celebration marks the opening of the mainstay casino, retail grounds and two hotels, Crown Towers and Hard Rock Hotel, the Grand Hyatt Macau will only be completed in late 2009, bringing the total number of rooms available to 14,000.
