Referencing Dunhill’s motoring provenance, the Spring Summer 2015 Chassis collection was inspired by the leather motor car dashboards originally used in the 1900’s and still used today in the world’s leading super cars. A softer, modern version of the leather has been introduced that is not only incredibly tactile but also scratch resistant and water repellent for added functionality. The cult carbon fibre effect on the Chassis leather range is created by fusing intense heat with a highly technical liquid print and metal printing plate to create a unique three dimensional appearance.
Using a patented process, only genuine carbon fibre fabric is used with the entire process demanding strict controls to achieve consistency. Details on the bag include the elegant D-rings, padlock case and leather zip pull all inspired by one of dunhill’s brand signifiers – the facet. Slim and angular, the facet glass was used by Alfred Dunhill when designing the interior lights of motor cars in the late 1930’s. The facet style was also the archetypical horological expression of the Art Deco era. Other key details include the circular leather I.D. tags which can be personalised and embossed with the customer’s name.
Refreshed this season in pillar-box red and royal blue for the single document cases, and moss green for the slim document case. The bags are also adorned with vegetable tanned cowhide trims, a gentle nod to the brands modest beginnings in the saddlery business which add to the distinctively masculine and streamline appearance of the Chassis leather collection. Made by highly skilled artisans, the bags are designed to be handed down through the generations.
