Inspired by baroque travel with fascinating colors and stories, the MIME collection stands out this season amongst the stunning pieces from Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2015 offerings. The MIME collection was dreamt up by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli who were motivated by the 18th century tradition of the Grand Tour, an educational trip taken by cultured young Europeans to explore the art, philosophy and traditions of Italy.
The MIME collection is affected by foulard prints that recall antique histories. Featuring five main prints – Blossom, Leaf, Flower Eyes, Arabesque and Flower Dot – each one has different color variations and are created either with a single print or a patchwork of these prints. The floral printed patchwork leather and eye-popping kaleidoscope imagery truly sets the collection apart from anything else you might see this season.
The bags are presented as a printed leather patchwork. Once all the leather panels are printed with a digital technique, the designs are combined together like a patchwork on the different bags. One of the distinctive feature of the shoes styles are that each pair differs from one and other, as every component of the shoes represents a different print. Now, if only each item came with a matching scarf…
