Artist Anya Muangkote and the band The Krrrrr have collaborated to perform the art installation titled “third eye” for the 2014 hotel art fair curated by superconsciousart gallery.
Perform within the setting of a small hotel room, the group, clad in white overalls, rhythmically beat their drums as lights scattered on the ground flickered to their own rhythm. In beating the drums, paint was splattered all over the band and the artist, creating a colourful chaos.
Muangkote’s concept was that human beings are highly judgmental of appearances and hence, the artist wanted to eliminate eyesight but awaken the other senses to understand the deeper meanings of art and music.
She explains, ” In this exhibition, we want you to understand the core of our identities. However we cannot make you understand it if you depend only on your eyes to see and judge our work. Therefore, we urge you to listen to your heart and use your emotions to appreciate our work in the same manner that we used to create them, by using our inner feelings as our guide. We decided to remove our sense of sight in working on this piece, effectively, we were working blind.’
