CEOs yearning to let your inner rock god out, here’s just the thing to jam to in your boardroom in the middle of the night: the one-off, grunge-inspired guitar, designed and finished by music maestro Jol Dantzig.
Dubbed The Crow – for the record, Dantzig has designed other guitars for legendary performers like John Lennon, George Harrison and Sting – is an exquisite instrument crafted from a core of Honduras mahogany culled from Dantzig’s secret stash, topped with spruce and a flame maple back.
The carved back of the Crow is fiddleback maple, very reminiscent of the traditional look of violins and period jazz guitars. To match the dark brooding look of the namesake bird, the maple is stained a lustrous transparent black and finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer.
Other exotic, luxe accents include a genuine ivory string nut, Asian buffalo horn strap buttons and switch tip; vintage variegated nickel-plated hardware; and mother of pearl and green abalone “claw” 12th fret inlay. Just in case you think this is just a pretty toy, The Crow is also for serious musicians: the guitar boasts NOS American-made CTS potentiometers and oil-filled Jensen-made tone capacitors.
The Crow comes bundled with a vintage tweed case with a built-in German hygromete, and a hand-bound thirty-two page paper journal documenting the entire design process—photos, drawings, poems and part-scraps from the build.
