In 1853, Henry Steinway set out to build the best piano possible. Flash-forward to the present and you’ll find that he kept to his word: the brand today is the gold standard for the most demanding of pianists worldwide. So the latest development in Singapore will be music to the ears of many an audiophile: luxury experts C. Melchers GmbH & Co. have announced the opening of Asia’s first Steinway Gallery at Palais Renaissance on Jul 8.

The 1,600 sq ft Gallery serves as an expansive showroom for an extensive collection of Steinway & Sons pianos, including Steinway owned-and-designed Boston and Essex pianos and the Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano. Exquisite “artcase” and Limited Edition pianos, such as the Crown Jewel collection and the John Lennon Imagine series are also available for viewing and hands-on playing.

“Steinway & Sons has continually stayed true to our founder’s commitment of producing the best pianos in the world,” says Mr Thomas Kurrer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Steinway & Sons. “The Singapore market is an important one, and we are very glad to announce our partnership with C. Melchers GmbH & Co. We look forward to welcoming even more people to share the joys of a Steinway.”

Commenting on the partnership, Alexander C. Melchers, Director of C. Melchers GmbH & Co. Singapore said: “Singaporeans understand and appreciate quality, longevity and, most importantly, superb craftsmanship. It is therefore the right time in Singapore’s cultural growth to offer this wonderful product.”

Indeed, the nurturing of an artistic and musical environment is one which has many hopeful for the future of the region. At the press launch for the boutique, Mr Leng Tshua, General Manager for the Steinway Gallery, added: “There is a steady increase of children enrolling for piano classes early in Singapore, but the best talent will achieve full potential when playing on a Steinway, and we look forward to see even more Singaporean Steinway Artists.”
