Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced it will open a new city resort in 2013, the Shangri-La Hotel, Diqing in Shangri-La County.
Comprising 230 rooms, Shangri-La returns to the region from where its name was derived which in Tibetan means “the sun and moon in heart.” Guest rooms will average 40 square metres, while features will include a Grand Ballroom, a health club and a spa.
The Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, on the southward expansion of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at an average altitude of 3,380 metres.
