PLANET OF THE PANDAS
French Artist Paulo Grangeon, in collaboration with WWF, PMQ and the creative studio allrightsreserved, has initiated a unique project in efforts to raise awareness about the endangerment of pandas. In a tour starting this coming June, the artist will place 1600 paper marche pandas in 10 different iconic Hong Kong landmarks.
The installation will begin in the Hong Kong Airport and progress to the Giant tian tan buddha. Each paper marche bear is crafted by Grangeon, with the help of his creative team, from recycled paper. Each individual panda represents a member of the species that is still alive today (though endangered).
Locating the bears in urban landscapes brings the issue to the attention of the public, representing the threats from humans that have resulted in the endangerment of pandas. It illustrates the shocking statistics about the environement and the endangering of animals. So far, the 1600 enigmatic looking pandas have travelled through Europe; from Paris to Rome.
