Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s new artistic director

After weeks of speculation, Dior has announced Maria Grazia Chiuri as the brand’s new artistic director, according to BoF. This comes fresh off the news of Chiuri’s departure from Valentino where she worked alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli for several years. This appointment also marks the French fashion brand’s first female designer. Chiuri will deliver her first collection on the 30th of September for the brand’s spring 2017 season.

“To dress a woman is more important than ever today. The evolution of women is a special evolution and her vision and how [Chiuri] wants to transform it is really interesting,” says Sidney Toledano, Dior’s Chief Executive. “Because she’s a woman and she has a different perspective on what she is going to do and it played an important part. I was looking for somebody that was deeply understanding the needs of a woman of today and tomorrow globally.”
