Luxury watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen has been working hard on conservation efforts around the world, especially in the Galapagos Islands. Proving that they are doing much more than paying lip service to a cause, IWC Schaffhausen has initiated wide-reacing conservation programs and struck up partnerships with the relevant groups across the world.
One such demonstration is their recently concluded Eco Drive in Pulau Tenggol, Terengganu, Malaysia. IWC Schaffhausen and its partners, PADI, Reef Check and Tanjong Jara Resort, organized an underwater and beach clean-up in support of marine and environmental conservation in October 2009.
One of Asia’s best diving sites, Pulau Tenggol has seen better days, as you can see in the amount of garbage the Eco Drive unearthed.
IWC’s idea in this and indeed all their conservation efforts is that the sea belongs to no one and that its treasures must be preserved for everyone, by everyone.
“The days of cavalier treatment of the environment are behind us with IWC adopting a strong social and ecological responsibility policy – taking a leaf from our global initiative in Galapagos Islands, we feel it only apt to be playing our part, together with our like minded partners to protect one of Malaysia’s beautiful marine jewels – Pulau Tenggol, which is one of the most beautiful and untouched dive sites in the world” said Goris Verburg, General Manager of IWC Schaffhausen, South East Asia.
