We first learnt of this eco-green property in September last year, when we introduced its environmentally friendly initiatives and efforts. But what we did not know then was the extent of their contributions, which speak volumes of their genuine concern for social and environmental responsibility.
Having had the luxury of establishing the first eco-luxury resort at otherwise untouched Huvadhoo Atoll, Alila Villas felt it was time to give back. Apart from streamlining design with nature like they have done with their silted overwater villas, Alila has recently announced a “Gift to Share” programme to coincide with the opening of Alila Villas Hadahaa.
This programme takes a three-pronged approach to giving back to the community, by aiming to raise funds for local education with schools and research facilities, while also devising ways to promote local culture and Maldivian crafts.
The programme also includes a community farming scheme which will help locals establish sustainable farming, rounding up the “Gift to Share” programme as an overarching sustainability project to preserve the island’s beauty in all aspects.
